March technically marks the start of autumn in Australia, but Sydney hasn’t quite received the memo yet. The days are still steamy, and I’m soaking them up and making the most of the lingering summer vibes.
The warmth and the sunlight have been a blessing, helping me recover after last year’s burnout (that’s a post for another day!). And I’ve been slowly recovering and resetting my routine (and my nervous system), leaning into small, simple rituals that help me feel more balanced.
These little rituals aren’t ground breaking, but they’re making a real difference in how I feel day to day. And right now, that’s exactly what I need. Here are seven that are keeping me sane right now.
1. Ocean dips for a mood reset
For me, nothing shakes off a bad mood like getting in the water. Whether it’s a swim at my local ocean pool or just a quick wade out into the waves, there’s something about being in the ocean that instantly resets me and makes me feel good. Plus, the water isn’t too cold yet, so I’m getting in as many ocean dips as I can before the temps drop.
2. Pilates (with a little yoga on the side)
I’m in my reformer Pilates era. And since a studio opened around the corner from my house (talk about the dream!), it’s become my go-to workout. I’ve been a regular since last year and I’m really starting to see a difference in my body movement and tone, my energy and my moods. Then on the days I don’t go, I start my morning with a session of Yoga with Kassandra on YouTube. It’s a simple way to ease into the day.
3. Morning walks with a podcast or music
I’m not someone who thrives on silent walks—I need a soundtrack. Whether it’s a podcast, my favourite playlist or BBC Radio 2 (I’m sorry, but Aussie radio really doesn’t compare), getting outside for even 20 minutes helps clear my mind before the day properly kicks off and I get into work mode. I’ll more often than not have my trusty sidekick Lenny with me too.
4. Adding magnesium to my supplements regime
I’ve been hearing that all women my age should be taking magnesium, and in all honesty I wish I’d learnt this sooner. It’s been a game-changer for my restless legs and I feel like I’m sleeping better, too. I’d like to do a deep dive into this soon, but for now, I’m just happy it’s working.
5. Dry body brushing before showers
I’ve been a dry brushing fan for ages. Not only does it leave my skin feeling amazing (it’s helped nix the annoying little patches of Keratosis Pilaris that were starting to show up on the back of my arms), it also gives me a buzzy little energy boost—like a mini coffee shot before I jump in the shower.
6. Journalling 3 goals and 3 gratitudes
I used to write diaries for many years, but I fell out of the routine. Nowadays I’m trying this simple practice to try and help me get back in the habit of writing down and processing my thoughts and ideas. Every morning, I write down three things I want to accomplish and three things I’m grateful for. It keeps me focused and helps me start the day on a positive note.
7. A soft evening routine
I haven’t quite kicked my evening TV habit (blame White Lotus and MAFS Australia), but I’m making my love of sleepy tea a real habit. It’s a tiny ritual, but it signals to my body that it’s time to switch off. We’ve also set the timers on our lamps at home so they start dimming slightly around 8.30pm, and right before bed I’ll do a few stretches and read a book—it all helps ease the transition for me into sleep.

The perfect swimsuit does exist. I just love the style and quality of FELLA, and the square neck and waist level scooped back on this full piece are * Chef’s Kiss *

Add intensity to your at home Pilates workouts.

Sometimes you just need to block out the rest of the world, and these do the trick.

They say magnesium glycinate is the type that’s most easily absorbed and doesn’t cause tummy troubles.

I use this exact brush at home and it does the trick. Incorporate into your relaxation routine before your evening shower or use in the morning for a refreshed state of skin.

No need to buy a fancy gratitude journal, a simple notebook is all you need to start out on your journalling journey.

We set the timers on our Philips Hue light bulbs so they start dimming slightly throughout the evening as we wind down.
