September musings – spring fling!

Each month I round up what I’m thinking about, reading, watching and loving right now…

It’s September, which means spring is here! The season of new beginnings, refreshed goals, warmer days and everything coming back to life again after hibernating through the chilly winter months.

And it’s been quite a winter – quite a year – hasn’t it! The colder months definitely made everything a little greyer and harder to deal with, and had me feeling low. So I’m not sure about you (and your answer probably differs depending on where in the world you are reading this), but for me here in Sydney it feels like September has brought with it the real opportunity for a new start.

I’m feeling more positive as we swing into this bright new season. The ‘strange times’ are still very much with us, but life has to go on. So there are a few things I’m refreshing and restarting this month, hobbies being rekindled, and of course a few home buys I’m lusting after, too…

Holistic heaven

While the pandemic has impacted us all in some way, it has certainly changed the way many of us are spending.

I’m much more conscious about what I buy, and where it comes from. While I’m also more likely than ever to question whether I actually need something, when I do make a purchase I’ve been supporting local businesses where I can.

Which was why it was such a pleasure to stumble upon a cute new holistic lifestyle store The Bodhi Room in Freshwater recently. I stepped into the tranquil shop and browsed through the thoughtfully curated pieces while Mr Blonde was at the barbers opposite, and I honestly didn’t want to leave the calming space.

While I have my eye on the artworks by Tanya McAllan, I did pick up some incredible essential oil blends by Perfect Potion, a Leif lavender eye pillow to help get me in the zone for all the meditation I’m (meant to be) trying, as well as a sage smudging stick – because the new season means the house is in need of a good smudging!

Lounging around

Spending more time at home means I have plenty of time to think about homewares and furniture. And we are in desperate need of a new sofa. While the one we have is fine for the time being, it isn’t the most comfortable to sit on and doesn’t give the lumbar support we need. (We’re clearly getting old!)

I’ve had my eye on this delicious pink Ligne Roset ‘Togo’ settee since I saw it featured in Sunday Life magazine. The feminine colour might not pass the couples’ test, and so I may have to go for something more neutral to convince Mr Blonde to say yes before adding to cart.

A saga in Shaker

Little Fires Everywhere
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

Nothing beats a cup of tea and curling up with a good book, and I haven’t been able to put down Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I don’t want to dish any spoilers, but I will say I found it beautifully written and I was frequently moved by the evocative prose, loved the 1990s set storyline and wanted to scream at the often infuriating characters throughout.

Clearly I’m in good company in my enjoyment, as since its 2017 release the book has been picked up by Reese Witherspoon and made into a TV show. One for my must-watch list.

In the pink

It seems that I’ve got a bit of a thing for pink at the moment. It’s funny, as I’ve never been a girlie girl, but there’s something about the soft shade that has me hooked right now.

These sweet Atmos & Here Bobbie Overalls from The Iconic not only look cute, but are perfect for that transition time from chilly winter to spring’s sometimes warm, sometimes cool days. They’ll look good with either a tee or a sweater underneath. Love!

What are you doing to celebrate the new season? I’d love to hear what you’re up to this spring. Let me know in the comments below.
